Saturday, January 31st - Susan Sontag - On Photography

I am taking a photography seminar course this semester, and for the class we had to read 3 of her essays: "In Plato's Cave", "America, Seen Through Photographs: Darkly", and "The Image World". While I enjoyed the first essay a lot, the second essay felt less like an essay and more like Sontag feeling personally hurt by the works of Diane Arbus and seeking to place that anger somewhere (refering to people outside the social norm as 'ugly' and making a spectacle of queer identities, when Sontag and Liebowitz were lovers--I can see how this would hurt). The last essay could have been really good, were it not for the fact that it spent a good 4 or so pages going on and on about China (a version of which she just... made up?). I get that it was the 60s and 70s when she was writing these essays, but they feel so dated and frankly racist that it made me so mad I didn't really process the rest of the essay. I think she's worth reading, but I also think she might be full of shit when it comes to photography. She says some stuff I think is true, but mostly I think she was just doing what critics do.

Tuesday, January 27th - Barbie Presents Thumbelina

This movie PMO. Also why are the faces so... shaped like that? fascinated.

Tuesday, January 27th - Hysteria (2011)

I don't know if I would call this movie 100% good (I was thoroughly pissed off by the romance subplot it was stupid and gay and lame), but the concept of the whole thing was funny. A guy gets severe hand cramps from fingering women. What are we even doing bro

Monday, January 26th - Newsies

Rewatched Newsies with 2 of my friends and forced another to watch it for the first time. Really good. I feel so maternal towards the newsies

Tuesday, January 20th - Barbie as the Island Princess

This movie was really bad. Why was the peacock so gay. What even. Whatever. Sure.

Tuesday, January 20th - Victor/Victoria

Forced my friend to watch this movie because I'm obsessed with it. Thank you Blue for putting up with me forcing you to watch this with me.

Monday, January 12th - Tuck Everlasting (2015)

Watched a recording of the Atlanta pre-Broadway version of Tuck Everlasting from 2015! Watched it with two of my friends because it's one of their favorite musicals and had a grand old time of things. I'm admittedly not very much of a musicals guy so I don't see very many of them! BUT! I did have fun watching this one. I was super endeared to Mae in particular, I'm always a fan of mom characters who are just doing their best. I'm such a big fan of watching things with my friends also. Very good time :)!

Thursday, January 1st - Night at the Museum

Watched this with 2 of my friends on New Years and had an excellent time. I hadn't seen the movie since I was like... 10 maybe, so it was an excellent watch while I was having fun with my friends. I don't know if I would describe it as... funny? There are a few spots that made me chuckle. Mostly I was just having war flashbacks to the yaoi of the Roman and Cowboy. As one does.
