Thursday, January 9th - Finished Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3: Stardust Crusaders

Holy shit. Ok they were not lying when they told me Jojo's was peak. I've gotten through part 3 now and godddddd it was so good. I had so much fun. It was so awesome.

My two gripes with Part 3 were just that I felt like Avdol's death was.... not good. It was just like. Too abrubt and did him dirty. I didn't even process at first that he was liek actually dead until like 4 pages after. I also just wish that Joseph... did more. I know he's not the protagonist so I'm not really upset but it's still sad considering the antics he was up to in part 2.

Overall though, I just had a really good time. The thing with Jojo's is that it has just been genuinely very fun to read. It's easy to read like 300 pages super fast because it is so good at keeping you entertained. I had a great time.

This is my overall tier list for the parts I've read so far (open in a new tab for higher resolution if you need it). Overall part 2 and 3 are definitely my favorites of the 3 I've read, but I have a hard time picking between which I like more. Regardless, I've had a good time with the story so far, and this list is all in good fun. Kars + The Pillarmen are definitely my favorite antagonists though. Dio is cool, but like... I dunno! Something about the sillyguy antics of the pillarmen captivated me. I think as a protagonist I like Joseph's antics a bit more, but Jotaro is also up to some antics often, just in a much more deadpan sort of way. Ultimately they are tied.

Overall I think the story in this part was really solid and I was genuinely invested in all of the characters stories. The main crw was really endearing to me and I enjoyed how they all played off of each other. It was a very funny manga with a cast of characters I really liked!

Next up is Part 4: Diamond Is Unbreakable. Everyone tells me I will love this part, so I'm very excited to read it ^-^!

Sunday, January 19th - Caught Up on #DRCL: Midnight Children

#DRCL is... interesting. It is very obvious that it's written by the guy who wrote Innocent, but not in a bad way. I mean it wouldn't be in a bad way, for all of its flaws I do really love Innocent, that shit is so fucked up and edgy for the sake of being edgy and I think thats beautiful. There have only been 3 volumes released in English but it was really good so far! I'm very excited to see where the rest of it goes. Overall, the new take on the characters are really good and I super appreciate it. This story also seems to value women more, which is always good. We like when women are valued. Hopefully the manga keeps up!

Tuesday, February 25th - The Black Orb

I read this book, that is for sure. The premise itself is really interesting, and I had picked it up on a whim because I wanted to read more books from authors from around the world. And the book... well... I mean it has a good premise, for sure. The protagonist of The Black Orb is a terrible person. Just like absolutely detestable. I gather that it's largely the point, but I feel like in a dystopia where there is no "happy ending" you still want to be able to root for someone. Truly though I just had no sympathy for the guy. Premise of the book before the final third was awesome though. Loved the idea of a bunch of black metal orbs just following people and absorbing them, it was a new fun spin on the post-apocalypse genre I really appreciated. I liked the freaky cult segment too. Otherwise though I feel like it dropped the ball (or one could say... Orb...) by the end and I mostly just finished it because I realized I had like 2 chapters left. I dunno. I don't regret reading it? But also I don't think I'd recommend it to anyone. Whatever. 3 stars. Could have been a 4 stars if the ending wasn't such a fumble.

Tuesday, March 4th - Mobile Suit Gundam GquuuuuuX -Beginning-

HOLY FUCK. HOLYYYYYYYYYY FUCK. GUNDAM IN THE MOVIE THEATER. GUNDAM IN!!!! THE MOVIE THEATER!!!! AND I SAW IT!!!!

Okay for real, spoilers ahead I need to SCREAM. Basically the movie was genuinely so good. the 0079 cold open fucking scared me though I was so lost at first when there was just high quality 0079 opening playing. But it's okay because then I saw Char and went HOLY SHIT ITS CHAR I LIKE THAT GUY. AND THEN THEY GAVE HIM A FUCKING GUNDAM AND IT WAS RED AND IT WAS SOOOOOOOOO COOL. And then they sent his ass through a wormhole or whatever and i thought there was going to be a char aznable isekai but it WASNT instead it was JUST AN AWESOME AU. AND THE NEW CHARACTERS ARE SO FUN. I miss Amuro but its made up for by the worlds funniest strangest throuple I liek them. I like also that technically that like they gave Char like ANOTHER person to be weirdly homosexual with that is so funny. why did they do that. they keep making him yaoiful. ANYWAY WOAWWWWW I LOVE MECHA ANIME I LOVE GUNDAM GUNDAM IS SO COOL THEY SHOOT EACH OTHER AND PUCNH EACH OTHER AND ITS AWESOME AND GODDDD. ILL WRITE AN ACTUAL REVIEW ON THE GUNDAM SHRINE BTW IM JUST GOING CRAZYYY

Sunday, March 9th - The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Okay so, I have technically already read Marie Kondo's The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up once before, in my senior year of high school. I was trying to clean out my room so it was easier to move though, so I was just using it as a way to get rid of stuff, and it didn't stick. I went through it again at the start of my spring break and this time actually followed her words of advice, and got rid of several trashbags of clothes and personal items I didn't use. I would say this marks it off the backlog since I hadn't engaged with it correctly the first time

I really appreciate Marie Kondo! I like that she says everything kindly and with the understanding that this is something that people naturally struggle with. Her kindness and the simplicity of her words is incredibly helpful and appreciated. I like as well her section on how to tidy, specifically on removing anything with a brand label from your house. Obviously this is hard for anyone to do, but it really is refreshing to not be staring at blrand labels all the time. Obviously you can't get rid of them all, but it truly does help. I definitely recommend this book to anyone struggling to get red of stuff or struggling to keep their house neat :)! It won't work for everyone, but I do find her stuff to be very ADHD friendly

Wednesday, March 12th - Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack

Another thing that I've already seen before, but I think I'm just going to use this as a place to talk about stuff I've finished generally. I really REALLY love this movie. I think watching Char become just this pathetic wreck who continues this cycle of violence because he's so insistent that people are naturally evil is FUUUUCKED. Anyway I got to see this in the movie theater recently and it was really good in theaters. Seeing Char and Amuro get into a pathetic fistfight on the big screen was beautiful. Char sucks. Movie good. Had a great time. Amuro Ray was there and hes my bestest buddy in the whole universe. I always think this movie gets a kind of bad rap because it treats Char "unfairly," but personally I see this as a finalization of his character through and through. He is pathetic and unable to hold onto any one ideal. The only thing he can stick to is that everyone compassionate dies so human nature must be violent and evil, and all war and violence is justifiable because the compassionate and innocent die. I think using Quess as an instrument of war solidifies both this theme as well as the theme generally present in the Universal Century about how children are often the most impacted by war. Anyway I fucking love gundam. Yeah

Thursday, March 13th - Heretic

I went over to my friends house and after a very nice day of working in the garden we watched the 2024 film Heretic. A really great time, I seriously enjoyed the movie. I unfortunately don't have much to say about it, I just think it's a pretty solid horror film. It definitely did rethink the way I interact with mormons on their missions who come knocking on my door... it is unfair to be cruel to these people who are just doing what they believe from their upbringing is right. I also think that a very sincere and kind portrayal of mormons is really sweet and endearing. Also the villain in this movie is like deeply hysterical. Worlds most diabolical college philosophy/theology teacher. I find that funny. Overall a good watch, I recommend it if you're into that kind of movie.

Thursday, April 10th - Every Rising Sun (DROPPED)

Wow... first dropped title. Not for lack of trying, I just could not get into this book. I picked up Every Rising Sun by Jamila Ahmed because it seemed like a nice synthesis to pair with learning about art in my Islamic Art History class. And in some ways, yes! There is a lot going on for the historical accuracy and I found that part really engaging. The reason I dropped it however, was the style of writing. Unfortunately, this book suffers from the first person "YA Problem" as I've dubbed it, where writing in first person feels less like a smooth form of storytelling and more like something I was meant to read when I was 13. It's quite unfortunate, but I think I will simply pick up one of the better translations of The Arabian Nights and read that instead, as I imagine it will suffer Much Less from this problem. I think if that style is something you like it's worth your time, but I just couldn't find it in me to continue.

Friday, April 11th - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable

I have finally finished Part 4 of Jojos. This one took me a weirdly long time to get through, but I was also very busy with classes and work in between, so I suppose it comes as no surprise. Everyone told me I'd like this part, and they weren't really wrong. The group of protagonists is fun and I especially love the Spongebob and Patrick esque dynamic that Josuke and Okuyasu get up to, and I like Jotaro in this part as well. I think my enjoyment of this part does suffer a little bit, as it feels much less tightly focused as parts 1-3. Though Josuke is supposed to be the lead protagonist, by the end it felt more like Koichi or Rohan were the real protagonists, and the lack of focus on Josuke and especially his relationships and interactions with both Jotaro and Joseph feels like a missed opportunity. I think overall though, I liked this part a lot, and it feels like something I'd probably enjoy more upon watching the anime, so that excites me. It's much more of a light-hearted jaunt even though theres some pretty serious topics within the manga itself. It doesnt really feel like the light-heartedness is doing a disservice to the stuff about Reimi or what Yoshikage Kira does which i appreciate especially, since it keeps itself more serious where it counts. Overall, part 4 is much more slice-of-life than the last 3 parts, which I also find interesting. The updated tier list has also had some things move around as I've sat with the last 3 parts for longer. Inexplicably, part 2 seems to be my favorite part so far. We will see if this changes.

Sunday, April 13th - Vampire Hunter D (1985)

On Sunday I had the pleasure of seeing a movie I've seen many times before as a theater experience. The 1985 Vampire Hunter D OVA is a wonderful piece of animated cinema that I somehow had at one point convinced even my mother to watch. Having now seen it in theaters, I think it has been by far my most pleasurable way to view the movie. Focused on the first story of Vampire Hunter D, it has an interesting spin on the world and the way that everything looks. Because the later movie Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust comes after the release of the manga, it feels like a more "accurate" view of what the world would look like, but the charm of the 1985 movie is so strong. The designs remain striking and keep me reminded of the beautiful illustrations of Yoshitaka Amano, which works well because I had just gotten a tattoo of one of his black and white Vampire Hunter D illustrations on the 4th. Overall, a wonderful movie that brings me a lot of comfort and joy. It brings me hope that maybe one day I will get to see bloodlust within a theater as well

Monday, April 21st - This is How You Lose the Time War

SCREAMS AND CRIES AND THROWS UP. WHAT THE FUCKKKKK. Everyone who's read this book was like oh you'll like it so much. Oh this is a book you'll love. Blah blah blah. And I was like. Well all I know is it's sci-fi (what I like) and romance (something I have a hard time with enjoying in book form). BUT GODDDDDDD NO THEY WERE SO RIGHT. This book has me FUCKED UP. It has me so fucked up. I think in part because I just finished it today after having had to drive back to college after a weekend visit with my boyfriend and so I just sort of want to curl up into a ball and sob and think of him and this book.

Anyway, this was genuinely such a good and enjoyable read. I am losing my mind I don't even have like proper words to say I'm just like OHHHHHH GODDDDDDD. I really liked it. I recommend it to everyone I've ever interacted with ever. I feel sick and disoriented and all the best things a book can make you feel. Though that might also be because I'm hungry. Heheh. Just a little joke related to the book for those of you in the know (it was completely unintentional I'm not that unfunny. ...Well.). Everything hurts and I will be thinking of this book forever. Genuinely crazy read I'm going to throw something. So good.

Sunday, May 4th - Cooties

I Genuinely do not know what the fuck I just watched. It was... funny????? I am so fucking confused??????????? It was????? good???????? i think???????? UM????? I don't know how to review this movie. it's a horror comedy zombie movie i watched with my mom???????????? Yeah. Elijah Wood was there so that's cool

Tuesday, May 6th - Look Back

Goddddd. God okay so I think the manga is a better experience overall almost definitely but ill be so honest I just like Tatsuki Fujimoto. He has put out nothing but bangers ever I think IMHO. All his work is FUCKING EVIL (positive) but it has never once missed. I think Goodbye, Eri is a better story so I hope the positive reception to this movie means we will get that as a movie. Or Fire Punch anime that would be SO fucking funny PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEE

Tuesday, May 6th - Madame Web

So for context I went to a friends house yesterday and we watched 2 movies. We watched Look Back and then opened Netflix (? I think) and proceeded to lose our FUCKING MINDS realizing this was on here. So we watched it. It was 2 hours of Nothing I will never get back. Gone. It was funny to laugh at with people but god. After an hour in we started skipping parts because we were like JESUS CHRIST THERES ANOTHER HOUR???? FUUUUUCK. Anyway I think that will be the worst movie I see this year. 0/10. Literally not a single likeable character. Didn't even make her blind until the end of the movie. Like. SIGH.

Monday, May 12th - Dragon Ball Daima

Yesterday, I finished Dragon Ball Daima! I had been watching it with my dear friend when I'd come back home to visit, which is why it took so long. Oh my god though, it was so peak. Genuinely some of the best Dragon Ball media to come out in ages. Leagues above GT and Super (low ass bars). I had so much fun watching it and the whole time was just having fun. Even though the plot basically went exactly how I thought it would go, it manages to delight the entire time. Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo all do stuff which is great. Majin Duu and Majin Kuu are by far like the funniest part of the whole thing. That and Bulma being like "if you don't stop we won't bathe together anymore!" and he just immediately stops and Piccolo is looking at the whole thing with the most pained expression. Poor dude.

I think it's pretty fucking awesome. I think everyone should watch it! Even if you don't like Dragon Ball it's just a fun romp that honestly just reminds me of Dragon Quest. It's just a silly time. A silly time and Goku is there.

Friday, May 16th - Jojo's Part 5: Golden Wind

I finished. Part 5. It took me like a total of 3 days to read the entire fucking thing. It was, unfortunately, kinda peak. I really liked it overall. I will be so honest I do not give a FUCK about Giorno I think he's the weakest protagonist so far and I just could not bring myself to care about him. The rest of the team though? Iconic. Abbachio and Bucciarati are so funny they are such weird freak yaoi. AND MISTA IS SO REAL MY OCD KINGGGG. I really liked Trish especially too. I think that her stand is super cool looking I like how cleverly she uses it and I really wish we got to see more of it. I think Diavolo/Doppio are a kinda weak protagonist duo but I loved that stupid telephone bit. When Doppio picked up the FUCKING FROG I didn't even question it I was just like "oh normal jojo's nonsense cool". Like is that totally 100% bad representation of what DID is and looks like? Absolutely. Was that the funniest bit in like all of part 5? Honestly, maybe.

Overall though, I did enjoy part 5. I think its maybe my 4th favorite so far, going 2, 4, 3, 5, 1 as a ranking, but I definitely really enjoyed myself while reading it. The stands are unique but make sense for a fighting manga, and the way the characters interact is so funny. There's like the evilest yaoi ever going on its great. Overall, I definitely really enjoyed myself. You might have to open the tier list in a new tab for better image quality, but this thing is getting large enough it's a little out of hand.

Saturday, May 31st - Twilight (Only the first half)

I. Have now seen the first half of Twilight. I got a headache watching it. All I know is that my friend and I have decided that the reason that Jasper just has like... a thousand yard stare all the time is because he is coked out of his mind. That's all.

Sunday, June 1st - Jojo's Part 6: Stone Ocean

SCREAMS AND CRIES AND THROWS UP AND THROWS SOMETHING AT A WALL. OH MY FUCKING GOD. OH MY GODDDDDDD. SOBS AND CRIES.

So anyway, part 6 was Very Good. Um. Um it was very very good. I loved Jolyne a lot I'm glad that shes a protagonist that is getting up to Antics. It reminds me of how Joseph would have little schemes in part 2, but more... elaborate? It was really fun. I love Foo Fighters and Ermes as well. I think Weather Report is my favorite character from part 6 he just makes me. SO SO SO SO UPSET like oh my GOD. His backstory had me FUCKED UP. Anasui is.... Idk. I want to study him like a bug I think? I want to punch him and strangle him but also like. He's so interesting. I really hate specifically how I have a similar neurosis to him (when I get really mad I will start working on some of my broken cameras (which usually requires a decent chunk of disassembly)) like man that's supposed to be MY thing and you're telling me the guy who put an engagement ring on Jolyne's finger in her SLEEP does the same shit? IM GOING TO KILL. Idk though I kind of want to perform experiments on him so unfortunately he will be a character sticking around in my brain. The Char Aznable effect, maybe.

Pucci is a villain I'm really REALLY mixed on as well. I like him a lot as a villain and I can honestly sympathize with the fact that he was like a 15-16 year old kid doing shit he thought was right at the time (ie getting Perla and Weather to break up) but going about it in ways that were all wrong, and its not his fault necessarily the consequences since he didn't know what would happen. AND he was basically groomed by Dio which is also like. Jesus Christ. BUT THEN LIKE OH MY GOD . oh my godddd. hes just so fucking arrogant and annoying and he misses me off like dude can you stop that. Whatever.

I don't know where to put part 6 on my enjoyment list. I think I liked part 4 more for sure, but after part 4 the list gets sorta messy anyway. I liked it more than part 5 at least, maybe more than part 3? I don't know. It was really REALLY good though and that ending had me fucked UPPPP. Which is always good.

Previously, I had been starting a new part like the next day after finishing the last one, but part 6 was fucking DEVESTATING so I need time to recover. Maybe I'll actually finish reading Dune in that time. Lol.

Sunday, June 15th - Vladivostok Circus - Dropped

I read about 30 pages of this book and I think it would be good, but I have a hard time with first person PoV books and as such just couldn't get into it. I love the descriptions of characters and the book itself seems really good! If you're interested in first person PoV books about what it means to learn to trust and work with someone I think this would be a good option! I'm quite sad it just didn't click with me, but I'm glad I gave it a shot.

Tuesday, June 17th - Dune - Dropped

I SHOULD START BY SAYING THAT I REALLY LIKED DUNE!!!!! However. It is very . very very slow. And It took me from January till now to get to about the halfway point of book two. I just can't justify keeping a library book overdue for that long. Jessica and Paul are very interesting and good characters, and I do enjoy the book dearly. I just... can't read it fast. I think ultimately I will return to it, possibly when I have less books on my backlog. It was very good as a read, and I enjoyed what I read. Fear is the mind killer is a very VERY potent quote and something I find myself repeating as well. When I return to Dune, I hope the fresh eyes make it an easier read for me to work through. I NEED to at least get far enough that I feel justified in reading the book where one of the grandchildren turns into a worm or whatever. I have to know what the fuck is going on there

Friday, July 4th - The Menu

Instead of spending the 4th celebrating a country nobody I know has pride in, I went to my friends house and we watched movies. It was great. Most of it was already stuff I'd seen, but we also watched This. The Menu. And ohhhh my GOD I am glad I did. Genuinely such a beautiful movie. The cinematography and lighting of the movie were beautiful and the acting was phenomenal. and oh my godddd the STORY. THE WRITING. The story was so superb. A story about the exploitation of service industries at the hands of the rich and fazmous and how this will always always come at the workers (or artists) expense because it has been co-opted by the masses. The choice of a breadless bread plate as a way of discussing the deaths and exploitation of the poor... the iconic "white person taco night" tacos that are used to expose the corruption of the rich people who were visiting the restraurant. and MARGOT!!! MARGOT IS SO. Honestly one of my favorite final girls in a movie ever. I'm glad she got to eat her good as fuck burger at the end of the night. Genuinely more final girls should get to eat a delicious greasy burger at the end of the movie. Definitely recommend this to anyone interested in horror movies who loves food or class commentary or exploitation commentary or some mix therein

Tuesday, July 8th - Twilight

I do not like this movie. I do not really have much else to say. Um. The baseball scene was really stupid. I think if Laurant was there more it could have fixed the movie. But Stephanie Meyer is a mormon and also sucks so the fact there was a black person at all even for 5 minutes is like a rare occurance. Also I hate Edward Cullen. I think he's the worst. Also alice deserves better.

Thursday, July 17th - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 7: Steel Ball Run

This review and update is coming out about a week after I finished SBR, and while that's mostly because I've been WAY too busy to update my website regularly, it's also because it's... I have a lot of thoughts about it. The overall concensus is it is a very very good part of JJBA. I really liked Lucy's story, and Hot Pants and Diego ended up being my two favorite stand users of part 7. I haven't updated a tier list just because I've been really busy, but those two are up there, for sure. The themes of part 7 (most notably how the United States and people in power will use religion as an excuse to commit terrible atrocities) was really good to read. Sometimes I wonder how much of Araki's writing of these themes is intentional, but part 7 like... has to be, I feel like. Some of that shit is TOO on the nose lol.

My main, and really only, gripe with part 7 is that the first half is the biggest slog so far to date. That shit was so boring it was like trying to read Mario Kart. Once it picks up though Oh My God. It's just unfortunate because it's got some of the slowest in a bad way pacing in the entire series. Messed up.

Overall though, definitely a really solid part of JJBA. Between its themes, setting, and characters, I definitely get why it's made some of my friends fucking crazy. I don't think I'm as crazy about it, but its themes do captivate me crazy style. Overall a big fan.

Monday, July 28th - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 1: Phantom Blood (Anime)

I spent a week at my friends house, and she had mentioned how she wanted to start Jojo's and then just... turned it on. We watched all of part 1 in the span of two days (granted it's only 9 episodes). It felt like a nice succinct version of part 1 that was enjoyable to watch. We were watching the English dub (friend's choice, I kept my mouth shut), and I don't have much to say other than that I really love part 1. Zeppeli ended up being my friends favorite character from part 1 (good taste) and I spent most of the time we were watching it being like "god Dio is just so comically evil in part 1 its so funny. why does he have those animal hybrids why can he do that". Watching part 1 just makes me wish more that Dio did more weird freak shit like that in part 3. Sigh!

Monday, July 28th - Alien Romulus

I've actually already seen Romulus before, but I just loooove this movie so much and needed to talk about it. It's just as good on a second viewing and so beautiful of a movie. The scene where the xenomorph grabs her in the elevator shaft changed my brain chemistry so much. This movie is such a love letter to Alien media, and that alone makes it one of my favorite things to have come out of the franchise recently. Every moment is a love to the franchise, and it feels like a real return to form of making the xenomorph (and the FACEHUGGERS!!!!!) scary. Genuinely the facehuggers in Romulus get me so fucking bad they are so scary. What a good movie. If you haven't seen it yet I recommend it, especially if you're a fan of Alien or just sci-fi horror.

Andy is one of my favorite synthetics I've ever seen. He's just so... I dunno. The autism-coding of it all really makes me feel for him on a personal level. I really love Andy. Just so dearly.

Tuesday, July 29th - Beef

I'd been meaning to watch this for a year and I finally did. It was, in fact, as good as everyone said it was. I really loved this show, but I don't think I could ever watch it again. It's not that it was bad or that it was difficult to parse, but rather that the characters are so good that every episode makes me feel irrationally angry and like I was going to kill everyone in the entire show. The acting was supurb however, and the cinematography was gorgeous. Sorry to be an art nerd, but seeing all those beautiful chairs in that art gallery for an exhibition was so awesome. Honestly spent that episode forgetting to pay attention to the characters in favor of looking at the beautiful furniture design.

Danny is the character I felt for the most, but also GOD. GOD HE PISSES ME OFF. EVERY TIME HE DOES SOMETHING I'M LIKE GOD OF COURSE YOU WOULD DO THIS YOU SUCK SO FUCKING BAD. When he goes to the church and he's fucking crying while they're all singing was such a beautiful scene though. I loved that so much. Really beautiful piece of media I can't ever watch again because I would simply get too pissed off.

Tuesday, July 29th - Mad God

OH MY GOD, THIS MOVIE. I have not stopped thinking about it since we watched it. A stop motion claymation film that's also a horror art film? Sign me up please. It was like an hour and a half of the most beautiful setpieces and stop motion I'd seen in a LONG time. Just a genuinely beautiful movie that was so, so gross. Every scene had me going "ew" while my friends also went "ew", but it was such a beautiful movie. I think I'd like to write a full essay on its themes and its relationship to the medium it was made in as well as other genres. It's atmosphere and it's quiet themes work so well as a piece of art. I enjoyed every second of it.

A piece of modern absurdism at its finest, every second focused on the cold indifference of life and the desire to continue on regardless was so... wonderful. It reminded me of when I read Albert Camus for the first time and was learning about Absurdism. Wonderful piece of art, if you like gross and beautiful stop motion art I highly suggest this.

Wednesday, July 30th - Detroiters

Watching this as someone not originally from Michigan but who goes to school there is very, very interesting. I didn't get all of the references and jokes, but I understood enough. I'm not a big Tim Robinson fan, but my friend's fiance (I think he is also my friend? I hope? I don't know I'm bad at figuring these things out) insisted I watch it. It was a good time, but I have very few things to say about it.

Wednesday, July 30th - The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball

So, I need to preface this with the fact that I've never actually seen the original, so my basis for gumball has been what few clips I've seen. I'm a big fan of this though. It's clearly aimed at the more adult audience that grew up with Gumball, and it means that the humor was very VERY geared towards me. The fact there was an entire episode centered around how cops are basically useless and especially in relation to schools was SO good. Definitely a good watch and it made me want to watch the original as well.

Thursday, July 31st - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2: Battle Tendency

I LOVE PART 2 OF JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE!!!! I think it's my second favorite part, it's just so good and perfect. I still cried on a second experience of part 2. It's just so good. The anime is pretty good too, I love that the pillarmen get a crazy fucking theme. I just love Joseph in part 2 he's so sucks and he's so full of schemes and he's just a real bastard. Love that shit soooo fucking much. Not much to say since this was just me experiencing the anime for a manga I read already but it was just a good time. It's really fun watching Jojo's with someone else so you have someone to share the insanity with. Especially part 2 because truly so much nonsense starts happening in part 2. It was a super fun time.

Saturday, August 2nd - Victor/Victoria

Victor/Victoria is something I watch frequently, actually, but I just really wanted to talk about it on my most recent rewatch. This is my favorite manga of all time and one that is sort of my namesake (it's part of why I chose the name Victor). While not necessarily the pinacle of gay representation, there's something deeply real about the characters and how they interact with each other. It's ultimately a movie where I feel seen, in the way only someone with a deeply complicated relationship with gender and cross-dressing could. I care for Victor/Victoria as a movie about making the most of the 1930s in whatever way you can. I don't really care for the romance angle of the film, but the very very beautiful friendship between Victor/Victoria and Toddy is wonderful.

The downside of the musical is, of course, that Victoria gives up her life as "a man pretending to be a woman pretending to be a man" to be with King. In an ideal world that didn't happen and King just accepts himself and whatever, but we can't all be winners. In an ideal world Victoria just lives her gender-nonconforming life and everything is just dandy. I love Victor/Victoria though, even for all of its imperfections.

Sunday, August 3rd - Superman

Went to go see this movie in theaters. It was a really really good time. Idk the last time I saw a superhero movie in theaters but I was genuinely excited for this one. Everything James Gunn touches might turn to gold, I'm unsure. It was just a really solid movie start to end. It really fundamentally gets Superman in a way that a lot of other Superman media (LOUD COUGH MAN OF STEEL LOUD COUGH) doesn't and that was in and of itself very refreshing. I really loved this entire movie. It's just a really fun time and a good romp and it nails Superman/Clark Kent as a character. SUCH a big fan of that shit. Thank you James Gunn for making superhero movies that are good and not dogshit lol.
